Can you use a selfie for your LinkedIn Profile?

Yes you can, but just remember that you want to look professional.

Linkedin is geared towards business persons who are looking to connect with others in the working world.

Selfies are great and so much fun when used in the right settings.

I’ve got lots of selfies with my kids, grandkids, from vacations and to showcase quick memories in the moment, like this picture from a Grimsby Chamber Golf Tournament.

Does this look like a professional picture?

Most of the time, selfies are used for leisure activities and don’t come across as professional as you’d like them to be.

Cell phone cameras use a wide angle lens, which is not ideal for a portrait. They often cause areas to look much larger than they actually are.

If you are going to use a selfie for this purpose, I would recommend setting up your phone on a tripod and using the back camera to get a more natural “posed” photograph.

But my personal opinion is that you should absolutely have a professional business portrait for your Linkedin profile.

There are many photographers who take fantastic business portraits, and I would be happy to recommend someone if my style doesn’t fit with what you are looking for.

If you have any questions, I am always happy to help!

Bryan
